Homemade Chocolate Bar

Imagine indulging in rich, melt-in-your-mouth chocolate without a hint of guilt. Yes, it's possible, and you don't need to be a chocolatier to make it happen! With your Thermomix and just 3 simple ingredients you can whip up a smooth chocolate bar that's as delicious as store-bought, but so much healthier!

What Makes Store-Bought Chocolate So Problematic?

Store-bought chocolate may taste delicious, but behind the scenes, it often comes with a less-than-sweet reality. Packed with refined sugars, dairy, artificial additives, and preservatives, these processed treats can lead to spikes in blood sugar and energy crashes, making you crave more shortly after you've finished. This vicious cycle can contribute to weight gain, inflammation, and energy slumps throughout the day.

The Magic of Cacao: Why It's a Game-Changer
The star ingredient in our homemade chocolate bar is raw cacao from our —nature's antioxidant powerhouse. Unlike heavily processed cocoa found in most commercial chocolates, raw cacao retains its wealth of nutrients. Here's what cacao brings to the table:

- Rich in Antioxidants: Helps combat free radicals and promotes cellular health.
- Mood Booster: Contains compounds like theobromine and phenylethylamine that elevate mood and energy levels.
- Heart Health: Packed with magnesium, which supports cardiovascular health.
- Satisfying and Energising: With natural fibre and healthy fats, cacao leaves you feeling full and sustained without the energy rollercoaster of processed sweets.

Note: Cacao contains natural caffeine, so if you're sensitive to caffeine, it's best to avoid consuming it too close to bedtime.

Benefits of Homemade Chocolate vs. Store-Bought

1. Dairy-Free and Refined Sugar-Free: Store-bought options often use dairy and refined sugar to enhance flavour and shelf life. These ingredients can lead to inflammation and further sugar cravings. Our homemade version is free from these, allowing your body to maintain stable energy levels.
2. No Artificial Additives: Preservatives, emulsifiers, and artificial flavours in processed chocolate can impact gut health and overall well-being. By making your own, you control exactly what goes in.
3. Lasting Satisfaction: With high-quality, nutrient-dense ingredients, homemade chocolate satisfies both your taste buds and hunger. No more mindless snacking or cravings for more!

Key Ingredients and Their Benefits

- Cacao Powder or Paste: As highlighted, cacao is packed with antioxidants, magnesium, and mood-enhancing compounds. Using raw cacao powder or cacao paste (you can purchase this from the Healing Breath) ensures that you're getting all these benefits without the nutrient loss that occurs in the production of standard cocoa powder.

- Cacao Butter: This natural fat derived from cacao beans is rich in healthy fatty acids. Cacao butter not only gives the chocolate its smooth, melt-in-your-mouth texture but also contributes to skin health and hydration from within, thanks to its antioxidant properties.

- Sweetener of Choice (Maple Syrup, Agave, Honey): These natural sweeteners are excellent alternatives to refined sugar. They provide a gentle sweetness while offering a lower glycaemic impact. Maple syrup contains minerals like manganese and zinc, while raw honey offers enzymes and antibacterial properties. Agave is a good choice for a mild, plant-based sweetness.

Topping suggestions: Try adding roasted almonds, walnuts, macadamias, or other nuts, as well as dried goji berries, cranberries, blueberries, chopped dates, shredded coconut, bee pollen, or seeds. Mix and match to create your perfect combination!

Get Creative with Your Chocolate Creations

While the basic recipe creates a luscious, plain dark chocolate bar, the real magic happens when you personalise it. Here's how you can add your own flair and turn your homemade chocolate into a gourmet masterpiece:

1. Nuts and Seeds: Add a delightful crunch and a dose of healthy fats by sprinkling in almonds, hazelnuts, pistachios, or sunflower seeds.
2. Dried Fruit: For a chewy and naturally sweet twist, mix in dried cranberries, cherries, apricots, or raisins.
3. Citrus Zest: Finely grated orange or lemon peel can elevate the flavour, adding a refreshing, tangy note that pairs beautifully with dark chocolate.
4. Buckinis (Activated Buckwheat): Add some texture and a hint of earthy flavour with buckinis, which bring an unexpected but delightful crunch to each bite.
5. Flavour Variations: Experiment with adding a drop of pure vanilla extract, a pinch of sea salt for a savoury contrast, or even a dash of cinnamon or chilli powder for an adventurous kick.

These customisations not only make the chocolate more exciting but also let you tailor it to your preferences or dietary needs. Whether you prefer a simple, elegant dark chocolate or a nutty, fruit-filled bar bursting with flavours, the choice is yours.

Why You'll Never Go Back to Store-Bought

Once you've experienced the rich taste, health benefits, and satisfaction that come with your homemade chocolate, those shiny supermarket wrappers will lose their allure. Making this switch can lead to substantial long-term benefits, such as improved energy levels, fewer cravings, and an overall healthier lifestyle.

Embracing this simple change isn't just about a better snack—it's about making mindful choices that prioritise your well-being. So go ahead, fire up your Thermomix, and savour the bliss of truly healthy, homemade chocolate. It's a sweet step towards a healthier, happier you!
